Jorrel Julius showed flashes of brilliant pace and raw resilience in the MINI CHALLENGE at Thruxton, charging to a front-row start and battling hard through a high-speed weekend.

Coming off testing outings at Snetterton and Pembrey, Jorrel Julius arrived at the ultra-fast Thruxton circuit with laser focus and a determination to unlock his true potential. Reflecting on his recent learning curve, the sim-to-reality prospect remained confident.

The Hampshire venue delivered non-stop action, but Julius proved once again that he has the raw speed and composure to compete right at the sharp end of the grid.

In Race 1, Julius displayed lightning-fast reflexes during a chaotic mid-pack battle. When Henry Foote spun directly ahead, Julius executed quick evasive action into the chicane hay bales to avoid a major collision. Demonstrating serious grit, he kept the car moving to cross the line 12th—a crucial drive that earned him reverse-grid pole position for Race 2.

Pole-sitter Jenson Mason picked up a false start penalty, handing early control to Alex Keens. A three-wide dash into the final chicane on the last lap saw returning driver Rhys Hurd take the flag first, but a post-race penalty for gaining an advantage dropped Hurd to second and handed Keens the victory ahead of Josh Selvadorai. Julius showed great awareness during the race avoiding a major crash when Foote spun, clipping the hay bales to keep his MINI in the race. Taking 12th at the flag despite a track-limits penalty, his perseverance paid off by securing pole position for the second race.

Starting from pole, Julius launched off the line to lead the field into the opening complex. A frantic multi-car shuffle saw the pack trade places, with Josh Selvadorai eventually charging from 10th on the grid to snatch the win with a final-lap pass on Matt Luff up Woodham Hill. Julius commanded the field into Turn 1 from pole position, gaining valuable experience leading a stacked national pack before settling into a hard-fought battle to bring the car home in a solid 8th place finish.

The weekend finale was a classic Thruxton “slip-streamer”. On the final lap, Josh Wilby made a move for the lead into the chicane, tagging Keens and allowing Hurd to dive through for the victory on track. Post-race penalties reshuffled the top spots, promoting Hurd to the official win. After Jorrel experienced an early off-track moment between Goodwood and Village sending his car across the grass, he gathered up the car, rejoined the field, and pushed flat-out to the checkered flag to gain more critical track time experience.

Thruxton proved beyond a doubt that the fundamental speed is there. From holding off top drivers at the front of the field to showing exceptional spatial awareness under pressure, Jorrel Julius continues to refine his racecraft in one of the most competitive single-make series in the country. With every track session, the pieces are falling into place for a major breakout result.
