I spent four hours calibrating my motion platform so I can feel the exact vibration of a rumble strip, yet I’ve ignored the vibrating 'Check Engine' light in my actual car for three months because I 'don't want to deal with the stress.

NEWS FLASH

Rules Reform: F1 stakeholders gather April 9 to address the safety and qualifying flaws plaguing this season. Six solutions are on the table, including "super clipping" to 350kW and reducing max deployment to prevent extreme battery drainage on straights. Officials may also cut recharge limits to 6MJ and grant total freedom for active aero in qualifying. While increasing fuel-flow for the internal combustion engine is a long-term goal for 2027, the immediate priority is simplifying complex software algorithms to put control back into the drivers' hands.

Virtual Debut: Genesis Magma Racing’s GMR-001 Hypercar has joined Le Mans Ultimate as a free update. In a rare move, this car launched before the real-world competition debut at the 6 Hours of Imola later this month. Developed using direct engineering data and V8 engine recordings, the update includes the "GMR Sim to Sim" online competition. The fastest five drivers win a trip to the team’s workshop in France to see the car and experience a session in their professional F1-bred Dynisma simulator.

Defensive Clinic: Eric Kunz delivered a masterclass at Sonoma Raceway, finishing fourth in Race 1 and 2 of TC America 2026. After starting fifth in Race 2, the Canadian veteran fended off relentless pressure from teammate Justin Gravit for nearly 25 minutes. Driving for Ricca Autosport, Kunz utilized his championship-winning experience to hold the inside line and stay composed despite Gravit filling his mirrors. His hard-fought result leaves him fifth in the standings as the series heads to Austin for the next round.

🏠 Race To Approval brings motorsport and sim racing culture beyond the screen through a mobile racing sim trailer that appears at car shows, race weekends, and community events across Ontario. It’s about hands-on experiences, growing the sim racing community, and connecting with people who just love cars and racing.

SIM RACING SNIPPETS

  • Pro Performance: Simagic’s new P700 pedals feature a dual-sensor system combining a 150kg load cell and a 12-bit Hall sensor. Built from high-strength steel with a silicone heel plate, they offer 35 adjustable brake settings and support optional haptic feedback modules. A steal at $189USD.

  • Future Tech: Former F1 engineer Elliot Dason-Barber details Ansible Motion’s "Driver-in-the-loop" tech. Bridging subjective feel and data, these sims allow brands like BMW and Ford to refine vehicle dynamics through high-fidelity virtual testing. More [HERE]

  • DreamHack Returns: After a record-breaking 2026 debut with 54,000 fans, DreamHack confirmed its return to Birmingham’s NEC for April 2-4, 2027. The historic weekend featured 800+ creators, major brands like F1, and a massive £1.3M total esports prize pool.

MOTORSPORTS REPORT

  • Max on the Brink: Max Verstappen is prepared to quit F1 due to his dislike of the "anti-driving" 2026 power unit rules. With Red Bull now the fifth-fastest team, performance clauses could let him walk mid-season as rumors of a future Mercedes move persist.

  • Record Growth: IMSA is experiencing substantial momentum in 2026. A historic Rolex 24 and a record Sebring 12, seeing over 115,000 fans attend, driving a 25% increase in sales. Broadcast figures showed strength, with the global audience exceeding 1 million viewers and a 37% jump in streaming.

  • Fuel Panic: NASCAR teams are reeling as a 35% surge in gas prices shatters 2026 budgets. Kaulig Racing is now coordinating trips via group texts to save on fuel. With averages near $4.10, some teams may be forced to pull out of races to survive the season.

Caden’s Formula Vee “Roller”

How This Lad Built a Career from a Roller

Most 19 year olds are busy figuring out college majors or roommates. Caden Parks-Miller is busy figuring out how to keep a Formula Vee engine from grenading. Living just 15 minutes from the iconic Road Atlanta, Caden’s path to the cockpit wasn't paved with a family inheritance—it was built with grease, grit, and a massive amount of luck.

The Education Pivot

High school during the virtual era was a struggle for Caden. Instead of fighting a laptop screen, he decided to fight the physics of race cars. After moving to Georgia, he enrolled in the Motorsports Vehicle Technology program at Lanier Tech with a dream to drive and exactly zero resources to make it happen.

Caden’s Long Game

Success in racing usually requires a massive checkbook. Caden used a different currency: sweat equity. Through an "adopt-a-student" program, he met mentors Jeff Tapolci and Mike Lawrence. A deal was struck—build a car from the chassis up, and get a racing license in return. But racing is rarely that simple. The first engine blew, and the plan evaporated. Most would have walked away, but Caden spent the next year traveling the country, wrenching for the team and waiting for his moment. Then in late 2025, the persistence paid off. Jeff handed Caden a "gift": a rolling chassis with no engine. Between December and February, Caden and a small circle of supporters pieced together CPM Motorsport LLC’s first contender.

  • The Milestone: Secured his SCCA license at Roebling Road in February 2026.

  • The Goal: Clinching a first-season podium with the Driverz Cup in the Radial Cup series.

Caden’s path proves you don't always need a silver spoon to get on the grid—sometimes you just need a wrench and the refusal to quit when the engine fails.
